Andre Geim, Nobel laureate, Chair of the Strategic Committee of the European Flagship Programme, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Royal Professor of Physics at the University of Manchester, UK, Fellow of the Royal Society, and Director of the Nanoscience Centre at the University of Manchester. He received his PhD in Physics from the Institute of Solid State Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, in 1987. After working at the institute for three years upon graduation, he continued his research at the University of Nottingham in the UK and later in Denmark. In 1994, he became an Associate Professor at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands, and in 2001, he joined the University of Manchester as a Professor of Physics.
Throughout his scientific career, Geim has published over 200 top-tier papers, more than 20 of which have appeared in *Science* and *Nature*. Among his publications, over 20 papers have been cited more than 100 times, 15 papers more than 1,000 times, and two papers more than 10,000 times.
To date, Geim's outstanding research has earned him numerous awards, including the Mott Prize in 2007, the EuroPhysics Prize in 2008, the Körber Prize in 2009, and the John Carty Award from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2010. On 5 October 2010, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov for their groundbreaking research on graphene. He subsequently received the Niels Bohr Medal in 2011 and the Copley Medal in 2013.
